Aircraft registration, airspace authorization records, operational logs, and insurance records are not included in today's plan.

Is a Kiteclerk record an FAA credential or authorization?

Accepted Answer

No. Kiteclerk stores information entered by an operator; it does not issue or verify an FAA credential, renew a certificate, or grant a waiver or airspace authorization. The FAA makes FAA credential, waiver, and airspace-authorization decisions. Part 107 duties can include making required records available for FAA inspection; storing information in Kiteclerk does not itself establish compliance with a recordkeeping duty.

What credential does Kiteclerk track, and what is recurrent training?

Accepted Answer

The credential is the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate, also described as the Remote Pilot Certificate with a small UAS rating. The FAA says certificate holders complete recurrent training within the previous 24 calendar months to maintain aeronautical knowledge recency. Kiteclerk can store a date an operator enters; it does not confirm training or change FAA credential status.

Where do Part 107 operators request airspace authorization?

Part 107 operators request airspace authorization through FAA-approved LAANC services or FAADroneZone. UAS Facility Map grids can inform a request, but a grid does not authorize an operation. Kiteclerk does not submit or grant airspace requests.

Does every drone operator need insurance?

Accepted Answer

Kiteclerk does not claim that every operator must carry insurance or determine what applies to a particular operation. Insurance is an optional record category and is not included in today's subscription. Saving information in Kiteclerk does not establish that coverage is required or satisfy a record-retention duty.
